@@j.st.8037 haha, no worries. I def listen to Prelude way less, it feels like a different band to me. Was always amazed at how different that title track sounds compared to the version on Psalms

There's really no getting around brute-forcing the painfully frustrating hours, months, years, to get to a place where you're somewhat happy with your playing. Even then, just putting in the hours doesn't do much unless you're mentally engaged and focused. My main advice is, target your weaknesses and rarely be comfortable with how you're playing. Don't idolize anyone but keep your ego in check by tackling your problem areas constantly. Things only start to "work" when you're well practiced over a consist, long period of time. I often take breaks from playing and it's always a struggle to get back up to speed. Enjoy the suffering, stay focused on your goals/weaknesses, and don't ever get comfortable

​@@noobsauce It's one thing for me to work on them from the tabs, but to think D.G. can come up with this stuff is wild. The new album is especially hard to the point that I don't think I'll make it without a decent teacher on some parts.

@@noobsauce RIght now mostly two common things: 1-Fast arpeggiated riffs (like bar 39 of Glitch Cannon on the rythm guitar). I feel like there's a sweeping motion there but I'm not sure. Same with the run on Wired Opposites. Some songs also have arpeggios with string skipping where I'm not sure if there's some cheating (muting) involved to go that fast. 2-Fast tremolo riffs like the one with the palm mutes on Last Words of the Wobbling Sun. I tried slowing it down, but everytime I go up to speed I build tension in my arm.

​@@batardglouton5455 everything in Artificial Brain is alternate picked. the two riffs that you highlighted are particularly hard to play really well, especially the one in Glitch Cannon due to the nuanced palm muting. the ultra fast trem picking is never easy and something you always have to drill in practice. without knowing how long you've been playing, so far I can say that tension is fine to feel as long as you're not hurting yourself. pushing your limits and getting better will result in practicing through tension. if it's the case where you're starting to feel pain in your hands/wrists/arms at speeds well below the actual tempos, then you have to really evaluate what your weaknesses are in your playing and go through exercises that force you to deal with those problem areas. if your main issue is generally tensing up, try playing "too" relaxed to the point where you're sloppy, but stay engaged and try to identify what your body is doing differently, and try to incorporate that same feeling when you normally play.

I honestly hate gear-related content, it is purely a byproduct of corporate greed in an oversaturated market. Best thing you can do for yourself as a musician is to learn how to sound good no matter how shitty your gear is.

I prefer to do it that way too. That's less tension in your fretting hand. There are some exceptions, like when you're doing "big" power chords (as in: Root - 5th - octave), but even then, I prefer the clarity of the basic Root - 5th power chord.

Thanks for grabbing the tabs! I usually switch between pinky/ring depending on what the next chords are. Pinky is the dominant choice for most cases, just less overall strain on the fretting hand
